Osoconalas

Todo empezó hace unos 4 años, cuando Lucrecia, diseñadora textil y próximamente madre de Olivia, comenzó a sufrir insomnio. Las noches sin dormir, además de promover las visitas a la heladera a la 5 de la mañana, despertaron (valga la redundancia) en Lucrecia la necesidad de ilustrar durante muchas horas. Pero, en algún momento entendió que sólo con eso no le alcanzaba, y decidió crearse un alter ego, no por sufrir de trastorno de identidad alguno, sino por descubrir que a través de su otro-yo podría volar! Fue entonces que surgió el personaje Oso con alas, una mezcla entre ternura, ingenuidad y cursilería, con ironía, sarcasmo y mucho «uruguayismo», que a través del humor y el diálogo con otros personajes (Tuna y Augusto) logra decir todo lo que «se le canta», sin preocuparse por el «qué dirán».

Primero creó un blog y cuando quiso acordar estaba ilustrando para marcas de ropa, exponiendo en Pecha Kucha Night Montevideo, y publicando sus tiras cómicas en revista Freeway una vez por mes.

En 2014 se presentó a los Fondos Concursables con la idea de llevar a Oso, Tuna y Augusto de paseo por las páginas de papel. Ahí es cuando recibo un precioso mail invitándome a contribuir en tal proeza como diseñadora editorial. Conmigo aún viviendo en España, gracias a la gentileza de skype y a las (sólo) 3 horas de diferencia horaria, comenzamos el intercambio.

A fin de año, con el apoyo de la editorial Estuario y Criatura editores, el proyecto es aprobado por el MEC, y en 2015 (yo ya radicada en Montevideo) comenzamos a trabajar. A la vieja usanza, con recorte y pegue de papeles creamos el libro en miniatura, una suerte de compendio de hojas arrugadas por el lleva-y-trae, que sólo ambas entendíamos, y que en algún momento lograron traducirse en un archivo digital para mandar a imprenta. El proceso de producción e impresión, se vio muy enriquecido tras hacernos cuasi-compinches con la gente de Gráfica Mósca, una de las imprentas más grandes de Uruguay, que nos hicieron la vida más fácil y el libro más lindo (Memorándum para mí: hacerse amiga de un imprentero!).

Si algo debo decir que este proyecto es que disfruté mucho de su proceso, trabajando en equipo con la autora en todo momento, y teniendo en cuenta lo más importante: «por favor, que quede gordito!!!»

All started about four years ago when Lucrecia, a textile designer and soon-to-be Olivia´s mother began to suffer from insomnia. The sleepless nights promotes visiting the fridge at 5 am, and awakened in Lucrecia many hours of illustration. But at some point she realized that wasn´t enough and decided to create an alter ego, not by suffering any identity disorder, but discovering that through her another-I she could fly! It was so that the character Oso con alas (Bear with wings), a mixture of tenderness, naivety and kitsch, with irony and sarcasm which through humor and dialogue with other characters (Tuna and Augusto) manages to say everything she wants, without concerning about «what people say».

At first she created a blog and time after she was illustrating for fashion brands, exposing at Pecha Kucha Night in Montevideo, and publishing her comics monthly on a popular local magazine called «Freeway».

In 2014 she presented a project to a local Founding with the idea of ​​bringing to her characters to take a walk through paper´s pages. That’s the moment when I received a beautiful mail inviting me to contribute which the editorial design. Me still living in Spain, thanks to the kindness of skype and (only) 3 hours of time difference, we began the brainstorming.

At the end of the year, with the support Criatura y Estuario editors, the project was approved, and in early 2015 (I was already based in Montevideo) we started working. To the old fashioned way, with paper, scissorsa and glue, we created a miniature book, a sort of compendium of wrinkled sheets by the leading-fors that only the two of us understood. In some moment it becames into a digital file to send to press. The printing process was highly enriched after us became quasi-buddies with Gráfica Mosca staff, one of the largest printers in Uruguay, which turns our life easier and the book beautifull.

If there´s something to say about this project is that I enjoyed all the process, working as a equip with the author all the time, and always taking into account the most important thing: «Please, it will be chubby !!!»
